Our Story
"Kalpana" means vision. "Karkhana" means workshop. We chose the pairing because the distance between the two is where most good ideas disappear. In presentations, endless reviews and plans that never become reality. We wanted to build a place where imagination didn't stop at inspiration, but continued all the way through execution.
Kalpanecha Karkhana was founded in Pune by my wife and me with a simple belief: the world doesn't need more ideas, it needs more ideas that are built well. Too often, we saw promising concepts lose momentum as they passed between consultants, agencies, vendors and stakeholders. We believed there was a better way.
What began as conversations around our dining table has grown into a workshop of engineers, designers, strategists and technologists who share that same belief. We bring together research, design, engineering and emerging technologies from day one, keeping our teams intentionally small and our standards uncompromising. Every project is approached with curiosity, craftsmanship and the ambition to build something that genuinely moves the needle.
Today, we partner with startups, growing businesses, and established organisations to build products, AI systems, digital experiences and new ventures that create measurable impact. Our work spans software, hardware, business innovation and applied artificial intelligence, but the goal has never changed: when a project ends, something meaningful exists in the world that didn't before.

What size of engagement do you typically take on?

Anywhere from a two-week discovery sprint to multi-year product programmes. If the problem is well-shaped and the team is decisive, we can start within a fortnight.
Do you work on hardware, software, or both?

Both, often at the same time. Many of the products we're proudest of are hardware/software hybrids that were previously treated as two separate projects.
Where are you based?

Kalpanecha Karkhana is headquartered in Pune, India, but our team is distributed across geographies. We collaborate with specialists wherever the work demands it and regularly travel for research, workshops and implementation. Our workshop isn't defined by a single location—it's wherever ideas are being built.
Do you sign NDAs?

How do you handle IP?

By default, all foreground IP created during an engagement is assigned to the client. We retain background know-how and internal tools.
